Some exaggerations and falsehoods are so outrageous that they deserve special recognition. The Dobbsy will be awarded to "mainstream" figures – those not normally regarded as extremists – who make false or misleading statements that denigrate or defame an entire group of people.

The award is named in honor of CNN anchor Lou Dobbs, who has repeatedly stretched the truth and peddled discredited propaganda during his nightly rants about immigrants.
